The Data Architect is responsible for designing and implement robust and scalable data architecture that supports the organization's data management, integration, security, and analytics requirements. They will play a crucial role in ensuring that data is organized, structured, and easily accessible for various business needs. This position will evaluate and propose data architectural roadmaps for Telesat and allow for progress on a lightspeed operational data platform (network performance trending for predictive analytics) as well as a business data platform to allow Telesat to make efficient informed decisions.
Responsibilities Oversee the development and use of data systems, ensuring effective data management, secure procedures, and data analysis.
Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT teams to develop a data strategy aligned with the organization's goals. Define and document data architecture principles, standards, and guidelines.
Design and develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models to represent the organization's data requirements. This includes identifying entities, attributes, relationships, and defining data types, constraints, and integrity rules.
Determine data integration requirements and develop strategies for integrating data from various sources. Create and maintain data integration processes, such as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), data pipelines, and data synchronization mechanisms.
Establish data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. Define data standards, data classification, data lifecycle management, and data privacy measures.
Assess and select appropriate data storage technologies and infrastructure to meet the organization's needs. This may involve evaluating relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, cloud storage, and distributed file systems.
Collaborate with security teams to implement data security measures, including access controls, encryption, and data masking. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations.
Experience in leading and managing a team of data scientists, analysts, or support personnel. Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills.
Work closely with data analysts and business intelligence teams to understand analytical requirements and design data structures optimized for reporting and analysis. Enable efficient data retrieval and data visualization techniques.
Document data architecture artifacts, including data models, data flow diagrams, and data mappings.
Collaborate with software development teams to ensure the implementation of data architecture principles and best practices. Provide guidance and support during the development, deployment, and maintenance of data-related solutions.
Stay updated with emerging trends, technologies, and industry best practices related to data architecture. Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and optimization of data management practices.
Requirements A bachelor's degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science
In-depth experience working with data management, database design, or data analysis. This experience can be gained through roles such as database administrator, data analyst, or data engineer.
A minimum of 10+ years of experience in data architecture - this can involve designing and implementing data models, data integration strategies, data warehousing solutions, and data governance frameworks.
Experience leading operational or project delivery teams.
Proficiency in relevant technologies and tools is essential. This may include experience with database management systems (e.g., MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL), data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, PowerDesigner), data integration and monitoring tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Airflow), and big data technologies (e.g., Azure Databricks, Hadoop, Spark).
An in-depth understanding of data governance principles, data privacy regulations, and security best practices. This includes knowledge of data quality management, metadata management, and data lifecycle management.
In-depth experience with Jira/Confluence/MS Office tools
