Position Registered Nurse, Occupational Health
Responsibilities Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to promote workplace health, safety, and wellness for all persons who carry on work activities at North York General Hospital.
Foster strong relationships with peers across the organization; connect effectively with physicians and staff.
Provide primary care, clinically assess and manage a variety of health conditions.
Manage health and illness absence, adverse event management, disease surveillance and immunization.
Respond to emergency situations and provide education and teaching as required.
Support the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.
Contribute to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.

On a practical level, you will Function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and the health care team.
Think critically, set priorities and organize work based on client/patient needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of transfers and lifts.
Commit to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
Have proficient skill with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems.
Assume a leadership/charge role with demonstrated motivation regarding continuing education in patient assessment, patient education and related clinical specialties.
Have excellent assessment skills with clinical knowledge of geriatric care.
Demonstrate organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management and teaching abilities.
Foster excellent interpersonal skills to support family-centered care and positive working relationships.
Demonstrate ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations.
Qualifications Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety and/or COHN (C) designation or equivalent.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
Minimum 2 years of recent Occupational Health experience in an acute health care facility.
Knowledge of Occupational Health principles and applicable legislation (OHSA, WSIA, Human Rights, Privacy).
Knowledge and application of current Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols for Ontario Hospitals (preferred).
Experience with disability claims management, rehabilitation principles, and transitional work programs (preferred).
Working experience with Occupational Health Computer Systems (e.g., Parklane) (preferred).
Experience in health promotion and wellness programs (preferred).
Bilingualism in French/English an asset.

This is a Part Time Casual position with 8 hour shifts, Day shifts, including weekends and on-call shifts, on an as-needed basis in the Occupational Health Department. A highly competitive total compensation package includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.
