Job Description

Become an Indigenous Language Support Worker at Shared Health, enhancing communication for Indigenous patients in Manitoba. Ensure equitable health care access by interpreting critical medical information.

This role at Health Sciences Centre focuses on assisting Indigenous families navigate healthcare services. Utilizing your proficiency in Cree, Ojibwe, or Oji-Cree, you will facilitate effective communication between health providers and patients. Your role is crucial for improving health outcomes and reducing language barriers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for patients and families

• Support healthcare staff in understanding Indigenous perspectives

• Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information

• Educate on local Indigenous culture and health practices

• Assist in the Shared Health Language Access Program

Requirements:

• Experience with Indigenous patient care preferred

• Fluency in Cree, Ojibwe, or Oji-Cree required

• Class 5 driver’s license and personal vehicle required

• High school diploma or comparable experience

• Understanding of medical terminology is beneficial
