About the Role
The Facilities Maintenance Technologist is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facility infrastructure, building systems, and some production support equipment. This position requires a highly skilled maintenance professional with strong HVAC, electrical, and mechanical expertise who can work independently, lead technical troubleshooting activities, develop maintenance procedures and SOPs, coordinate contractors, and provide emergency response support as required.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Building Systems Support
Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of facility and building systems.
Provide technical expertise for HVAC equipment, building automation systems (BAS), electrical distribution systems, controls, mechanical equipment, and utility infrastructure.
Support the operation and maintenance of:
HVAC systems and controls
Electrical distribution systems
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Pumps, motors, and rotating equipment
Manufacturing and production support equipment
Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical blueprints.
Maintenance & Reliability
Develop, coordinate, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for facility and production support equipment.
Maintain inspection records, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
Utilize SharePoint systems to track work orders, asset history, maintenance schedules, and key performance metrics.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and maintenance processes.
Maintain inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and critical spare components.
Contractor & Vendor Management
Coordinate and oversee contractor and vendor activities on site.
Obtain quotations, review scopes of work, and provide recommendations for maintenance and facility projects.
Ensure contractors comply with company safety policies, work permits, and regulatory requirements.
Verify completion and quality of contracted work and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
Periodically work with landlord on building issues.
Facilities Operations & Projects
Support facility, modifications, equipment installations, and office moves.
Assist with planning and execution of capital facility projects.
Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to business operations.
Support initiatives related to facility performance and operational excellence.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, environmental regulations, health and safety requirements, and corporate standards.
Participate in audits and inspections and maintain documentation required to support compliance activities.
Promote a strong safety culture through proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation.
Required Capabilities
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in facility maintenance, building operations, manufacturing maintenance, or a similar industrial environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting complex HVAC and electrical systems.
Experience in managing contractors and service providers.
Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Work in a clean room environment would an asset.
Desired Education and Experiences
Minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or degree Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Building Systems Technology, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline. or Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Licensed trade certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical, Millwright, or related discipline is considered a strong asset
