Position Summary:

As part of the Production Engineering team, the Senior Systems Administrator administers and maintains customer-facing SaaS infrastructure including services running in both public cloud and datacentre environments. You will provide support, troubleshooting, and management expertise for our growing application platforms while working closely with developers, DBAs, and other internal teams to ensure that the system is stable, secure and scaling to meet demand. You will work on platform migrations, recommend and implement upgrades, improve our current processes, and introduce new technology.

You have administered Windows Server in the datacentre or cloud, been responsible for SaaS applications, and are familiar with a variety of compute and infrastructure services including AWS, Azure, IIS, SFTP, SMTP, VMware, load balancers, firewalls, database servers, and related technologies. With an automation mindset, you default to building automated processes to replace repetitive manual work and ensure predictable, repeatable outcomes. You’ve worked primarily with Windows Server but may have some experience with Linux too. You will help ensure the smooth operation of our production environments, contribute to our continuing improvement, and assist in architecting our platforms. You possess excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure critical systems are available 24x7x365

Deploy, administer, and troubleshoot SaaS applications, primarily running on Windows servers

Deploy new services and infrastructure to AWS, Azure, and datacentres

Automate manual processes

Work with the DBA team to ensure that database servers are stable and secure

Proactively monitor application and infrastructure performance; recommend and implement additional resources as needed

Contribute to and extend our Infrastructure as Code to perform resource creation and management across our environments

Ensure that regular operational hygiene tasks are performed on schedule, including patching, automated backups, certificate renewals, and security reviews.

Develop secure deployment and configuration guides as new technology is implemented.

Monitor and enforce compliance with Cority internal information security controls.

Assist with internal audits and other information security related tasks

Enable more efficient and smarter business processes and implement analytics for meaningful insights

COMPETENCIES AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

5 years of hands-on experience in design, implementation, configuration, and support of production Windows workloads, including SaaS applications

In-depth knowledge of the Windows server operating system, including Internet-facing IIS workloads

Proven experience with automating manual processes

Experience with observability and APM tools like ELK, New Relic, or Datadog

In-depth understanding of application scalability, performance and reliability

Familiarity with VMware or other virtualization technologies

Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and common Internet-facing services

Some experience administering MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other database platforms

Experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS

Practical experience with Linux

Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve server related issues

Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently as well as within a team

Strong time management skills and attention to detail in documentation

Experience with containerized applications would be an asset

Note: Incumbent will work regular business hours, but may require evenings and weekends to complete projects, monitor system/network alerts or perform maintenance on systems.

EDUCATION and PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience required.

Azure, AWS, or VMware certifications are desirable but not required.
