Urgent Care Physician

Job Description The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) invites applications for the position of Urgent Care Centre Physicians at the new Urgent Care Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. Be a part of this great new service as it gets underway and help build the rotations!

The Regina Urgent Care Centre is currently under construction and is anticipated to be functional in the summer of 2024. The new facility is an important addition to health care services for Regina and area residents and will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Urgent Care Centre will offer patients an alternative to the emergency room for immediate treatment in non-life threatening situations, such as minor breaks or sprains and illnesses or fevers. It will be staffed with a multidisciplinary care team, including mental health professionals, to provide patients better access to urgent medical attention for a variety of needs.

The Urgent Care Centre in Regina may expect to see clients whom experience disproportionate health disparity, complex chronic medical and social health concerns and barriers to access.

The SHA is dedicated to learning and is a partner in the growing educational needs of medical students and residents from the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. The University of Saskatchewan is a research-intensive institution with 22,000 students and 7,000 faculty and staff, and a strong reputation for innovation and excellence. The College of Medicine has an intake of 100 students per year with a commensurate number of positions for residency training. The Department of Family Medicine has distributed training sites in Saskatoon and Regina.

Job Qualifications Required Qualifications:

The successful applicant will:

be certified in Family Medicine with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) [CCFP or CCFP(EM)] or certified in Emergency Medicine with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCPC),

hold active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) ,

have current medical liability insurance coverage,

demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal,

have greater than one year of experience in any of Urgent Care, Emergency Room or high volume.

Primary Health Care Clinic setting:

be certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS),

be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff, management, and function well in a high-volume clinical environment with a commitment to provision of high-quality patient and family centered care.

Preferred Qualifications: familiarity with information technology systems, such as PACS, SCM , M*Modal,

previous experience providing urgent or emergency care to patients,

experience or interest in providing trauma-informed care, complex chronic disease management, addictions and supporting the medically and socially vulnerable are considered an asset.

The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary care environment and show dedication to compassionate care.

In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

The successful applicant has the potential to participate in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Department of Family Medicine in the Regina Area and may be appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.

Candidates able to fulfill the requirements of 1.0 FTE are desired, however applications to a minimum of 0.2 FTE will be considered.

The start date for this position is expected to be in the Summer of 2024 but may be negotiable.
