The Energy Services team's vision is for thoughtful homes to work together for 100% clean and affordable energy. Our team is entirely focused on planet positivity, and you will be a key contributor in bringing that vision to life. eco+ has already helped millions of users use cleaner and cheaper energy and is growing fast to keep energy costs low for more homeowners across North America. The eco+ product is used by more than 70 utility partners and is revolutionizing how the grid responds to peak demand, thanks to Machine Learning models that optimize comfort and energy savings for customers. At the heart of this is the Energy Control Platform (ECP), ecobee's API platform that enables utility partners to create and manage demand response and grid resiliency programs, dispatch events to enrolled smart thermostats, and manage thermostat groups at scale. You would be joining as a member on a small but growing team, helping shape a culture that empowers the team to make great technical decisions, drive strategic choices, actively improve on our processes and mentor others. You will work closely with Product and other engineering teams to shape the roadmap and consistently improve the platform, with occasional collaboration with marketing and sales partners. The Energy Services team is highly data driven an is consistently focused on improving our culture and processes. You'll benefit from monthly learning days, regular guest speakers from the energy industry, strategic offsites, as well as other opportunities for growth and development! This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week. How You'll Make an Impact:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll: Design, build, and evolve high-load, highly concurrent backend services that directly support ecobee's products and business goals, including the Energy Control Platform (ECP), ecobee's API platform that powers demand response and grid resiliency programs for utility partners. Use modern technologies to solve complex technical challenges at scale, with the flexibility to evaluate and adopt new tools when they meaningfully improve outcomes. Contribute to and help shape ecobee's engineering culture by sharing knowledge, learning from peers, and applying thoughtful engineering practices. Influence technical direction and decision-making, with your ideas and contributions having a measurable impact on the company's systems and objectives. What You'll Bring to the Table:

You have strong Go experience and are comfortable designing, implementing, and debugging microservices on Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS, along with both NoSQL and relational databases. You leverage AI assisted development to move faster, improve quality and navigate unfamiliar codebase. You continuously challenge yourself and the status quo, seeking better ways to solve complex problems. Systems design and architecture are areas where you're comfortable and confident.
