The Opportunity

We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Department in our Mississauga office. In this role, you’ll manage and support multi-disciplinary projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules. Working in a team environment, you will ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and up to high-quality standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

Design modifications to,or entirely new, electrical systems related to hydroelectric and heavy industrial projects

Support the delivery of multiple projects involving hydroelectric power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, from proposal development through to project completion

Support substation layout development and the installation of high and medium voltage equipment

Prepare high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage single line diagrams with protection & relaying

Prepare equipment schematic diagrams and terminal wiring diagrams

Design substation grounding using CEDEGS software

Conduct power system analysis, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and motor starting studies using ETAP or EasyPower

Familiarity with PSCAD and PSSI tools for dynamic analysis would be an asset

Provide construction support services, including reviewing shop drawings, coordinating communication between contractors and the owner, and conducting site inspections

Prepare and review specifications and reports

Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensuring that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met

Manage and mentor junior staff

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant bringing forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university; a postgraduate degree is an asset

Preferred 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering

Registered or eligible to become registered with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), registration in other Canadian provinces would be an asset

Previous consulting experience is preferred

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support is preferred

Detailed knowledge of power distribution systems up to medium-voltage level

Knowledge of hydro stations is an asset

Previous experience with power systems studies is an asset

Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and relevant electrical standards

Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects is preferred

Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks

The salary range for this role is between $95,000 to $130,000 annually.
