Job Description

Drive impactful data solutions at Affirm as a Senior Software Engineer specializing in database architecture. This remote-first role emphasizes large-scale database design and automation.

As a key member of the Data and Storage Services team, you will bring 5+ years of software engineering expertise to build and operate distributed SQL databases. Your responsibilities include enhancing database reliability, automating control plane functions, and participating in technical decision-making. You'll work alongside talented peers to shape the strategic direction of database technologies and improve performance throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and scale relational and distributed SQL databases

• Automate provisioning, failover, backups, and upgrades

• Design zero-downtime schema and data migrations

• Lead quarterly goals while supporting your team

• Foster collaboration with product management and design

Requirements:

• 5+ years in software engineering

• Expertise in Python, Kubernetes, MySQL, and Terraform

• Hands-on experience with production database deployments

• Familiarity with ProxySQL and connection management

• Proven experience with database performance optimization
