Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Job Description

Overview

Location: Los Angeles, CA or Vancouver, BC Job Type: Full-Time Salary: Depends on experience and location About Kyte Dynamics: We’re redefining what’s possible in the sky. Our next-gen aerial vehicle architecture unlocks safe, ultra-precise access to people and infrastructure even in high gust conditions. From lightning-fast food and medical delivery to cutting-edge industrial applications, we're building the future of airborne operations. Trusted by iconic brands. Backed by world-class investors. Join us as we build this new industry called aerial robotics.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer with a strong multidisciplinary background spanning electrical, mechanical, and embedded systems. This role combines circuit design, mechanical integration, and embedded software development to deliver reliable, high-performance drone platforms for mission-critical applications. You’ll be a key driver of our aerial robotics program—developing and integrating avionics, power systems, structural components, and embedded software. Ideal candidates are hands-on engineers with strong system-level thinking and experience building robust, fault-tolerant platforms for real-world deployment in aerospace, robotics, or industrial environments.

What You’ll Do

Design, simulate, and implement digital and analog circuits using Altium Designer Develop mechanical subsystems and support system integration using CAD tools and rapid prototyping techniques Create detailed schematics and multilayer PCB layouts with attention to EMI/EMC, signal integrity, and manufacturability Develop and debug embedded software in C/C++ for flight controllers, sensor interfaces, and motor control Integrate electrical, mechanical, and embedded systems into complete flight-capable platforms Collaborate cross-functionally with software, autonomy, and manufacturing teams to bring up, validate, and iterate on drone hardware Document design specifications, integration plans, and test procedures for validation and flight readiness Contribute to and support hardened and/or redundant architectures for high-reliability aerial operations

What You’ll Need

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline 5+ years of experience in cross-functional hardware development (mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems) Proficiency in Altium Designer and embedded C/C++ development Experience with CAD tools for mechanical design and integration Strong understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and power systems Experience with flight controller platforms (e.g., PX4, Pixhawk) and common communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet) Hands-on experience with prototyping, debugging, and testing integrated hardware systems

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with autonomous aerial systems, drones, or robotics Background in designing for safety-critical or high-reliability systems (e.g., aerospace, automotive, defense) Familiarity with RTOS environments and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing Understanding of fault-tolerant design, FMEA, or environmental testing standards Experience taking systems from concept to flight-tested deployments

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: depends on experience and location Health, dental, and vision insurance
